Huskies take four games

OTHELLO - After dropping a league opening doubleheader on the road at Selah March 12, the Huskies softball team has turned things around with twin bill wins over Southridge and East Valley.

Othello took two nonleague games from the Suns March 21, and then evened its record in the Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) at 2-2 with two wins over the Red Devils Saturday. The Huskies are 4-2 overall.

"I'm very happy with the way the girls are playing and with their attitudes on and off the field," coach Rudy Ochoa said. "Our pitchers pitched well to shutout both teams."

The first twin bill of the week saw the Huskies combine for 20 runs off 14 hits, while limiting the Suns to 2 hits and no runs.

Othello's arsenal was led by Daisy Salgado and Kim Bullis who had 2 hits in 4 at bats each, and Sofie Rodriguez who went 2-for-3 at the plate in game one. Madison Martinez struck out 10 Southridge hitters and picked up the win.

Salgado, Martinez, Rodriguez and Tori Zambrano all had 2 hits in 3 plate appearances to lead the Huskies attack in game two of the doubleheader. Kalinda Kosters was 2-for-2, and Kirsten Quigley rapped out a double for Othello. Bullis went the distance on the mound and fanned 7 Suns to record the win.

East Valley 0,0

The Huskies exhibited mid-season form in their doubleheader against the Red Devils as Othello got 12 runs off 10 hits in first game and 10 runs off 15 hits in the second.

Martinez and Bullis were throwing smoke again on the bump as they limited East Valley to 8 hits in the two games. Martinez took game one and Bullis chalked up the win in game two.

Zambrano had the hot bat for the Huskies going 6-for-8 with a triple in the twin bill. Bullis had 2 hits in 2 at bats with a triple and a home run in game two, and Kosters was 3-for-3 with a double.

"The girls came out swinging in both games and played error free ball in both as well," Ochoa said. '"Both pitchers pitched very well to record our third and fourth shutouts of the year."

Othello is back on the diamond Saturday when the Huskies travel to Prosser for a league doubleheader with the Mustangs.
