MOSES LAKE - Hailie Bishop went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, a home run and 2 RBI in game one, and Vanessa Rodriguez just missed hitting for the cycle with a double, two triples, a home run and 4 RBI in game two to lead the Chiefs to a sweep over the Pirates in doubleheader action Friday.

The Chiefs scored 41 runs off 37 hits and played errorless ball in the two wins.

"We really came out and crushed the ball ... especially in the first game of the doubleheader," coach Dave Gregory said. "I was really happy with the way our pitchers performed and with our defensive effort too."

The Chiefs took an 11-0 lead after the first inning of play. The score held up until Davis brought 2 runs across the plate in the top of the fourth.

Moses Lake added 6 runs in the bottom of the fourth and 7 in the Chiefs half of the fifth to run away with the game.

Sadee Smigaj recorded the win for Moses Lake, giving up just 2 runs off 4 hits, while fanning 5 Pirates. She also helped her self out with 4 hits in 4 at bats and 3 runs scored. Haylie VanLathen was 2-for-3 with 6 RBI.

The Pirates looking to right their ship hit a leadoff home run off of VanLathen in the top of the first inning, but it was the only score of the game for Davis as the Chiefs cruised to a 16-run win.

Haley Orozco came on in relief of VanLathen in the third inning and gave up one hit while striking out four Pirate batters in her first outing of the year on the hill for Moses Lake.

The wins over Davis improves the Chiefs to 3-0 in Big 9 league play and 5-3 overall and lands Moses Lake into a tie for first place with the Eastmont Wildcats.

The Chiefs are out of action for spring break and will resume play for a single game against the Sunnyside Grizzlies at home April 9. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
