Lady Vikings softball drops four games

MOSES LAKE - The Lady Vikings stumbled out of the gate dropping four home games to start East Region Conference play over the weekend.

Big Bend Community College (BBCC) lost a doubleheader to first place Wenatchee Valley Community College (WVCC) Friday, and were on the losing end of a twin bill against Yakima Valley Community College (YVCC) Saturday.

The losses drop BBCC to 0-4 in conference play, and 4-10 overall.

BBCC 0, 2

The Vikings bats were silent in game one of the doubleheader against the Knights as Hailey Bator pitched a no-hit shutout, while striking out 11 BBCC hitters.

The only blemish on a perfect game for Bator was a base on balls to Christian Hill-Erickson in the bottom of the second inning.

All 9 WVCC runs came in the top of the fourth inning of play. Nicole Cameron was the losing pitcher of record for the Vikings, giving up 9 runs off 11 hits. BBCC had 2 errors in the game.

Game two of the twin bill saw the Lady Vikings give up 13 runs off 14 hits and commit 6 errors in the lopsided loss. BBCC scored 2 runs off 3 hits.

The Knights scored 7 runs in the top of the second and 2 in the top of the third to race out front 9-0. BBCC got 2 runs back in the bottom of the third, but were unable to bring any more runners across the plate.

Kelsie Salverda took the loss for the Lady Vikings.

YVCC 8, 9

BBCC posted goose eggs across the board in game one of the doubleheader against the Yaks Saturday. Winning pitcher Kayla Reynolds gave up just two hits and struck out 8 Lady Viking batters. BBCC had 3 fielding errors in the game. Salverda was tagged with the loss.

The second game of the twin bill was the most competitive of all four games played. The Lady Vikings scored 4 runs off 10 hits, but were plagued once again by miscues as BBCC committed 6 errors in the contest.

The Vikings led 1-0 at the end of the first inning of play, but the score didn't hold up long as YVCC put 7 runs on the board over the next two innings to go up top 7-1. BBCC got a run back in the bottom of the third to try and make a game of it, 7-2. But the Yaks put a run on the board in the top of the sixth and seven innings to pull away from the Lady Vikings, 9-2.

BBCC added a run in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, but was unable to pull out a come from behind win.

Kodi Kuykendall had the hot bat for BBCC going 3-for-4 and a run scored. Katie Martinez had 2 hits in 4 at bats with a run scored and 1 RBI, and Leyna Downey was 2-for-4 with a run scored and 1 RBI.

Nicole Cameron was hit with the loss for BBCC, giving up 7 runs off 6 hits in 2 innings of work.

The Lady Vikings are back on the diamond this weekend when BBCC travels to Blue Mountain Community College Friday and Treasure Valley Community College Saturday.
