MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake residents can now add working out to the list of things to do in LakeTown Landing.

The Health Zone, a workout studio, recently moved from its West Broadway Avenue building to a space in downtown Moses Lake along Third Avenue.

Owners George and Angie Stevenson celebrated their move with members of the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce during a ribbon cutting ceremony last week.

The Health Zone first opened on West Broadway Avenue in Moses Lake in November 2009.

While business was steady, the couple decided to make the move to Moses Lake's downtown shopping district to attract more customers.

"We needed something bigger, we were growing out of that old space," George Stevenson said. "And we wanted more foot traffic."

Stevenson said business has almost doubled since their move.

"We were the destination out there, but you had to know we were there," he said. "Here we get people walking by and they stop to see what we're all about."

Comfort for their customers was also a factor in the move, he said.

"This space is almost three times bigger than the old place," Stevenson said.

The new location features about 10 T-Zone machines. T-Zone machines are Canadian made whole body vibration machines, said Stevenson.

"It's basically a machine that exercises you, and causes your muscles to expand and contract," he said.

The result he said, is a very low-impact workout.

"It's much easier on the body," said Stevenson. "You don't exert your energy, the machine moves muscles for you."

Ten minutes on the T-Zone machine is the equivalent of about an hour workout at a traditional gym, he said.

"That's huge with the clientele that we have," he said. "We see a lot of people with arthritis, fibromyalgia and diabetes, and the regular gym is not for them."

The T-Zone machines also help improve balance and circulation, said Stevenson.

Stevenson said a T-Zone workout can also benefit people who go to traditional gyms or do Jazzercise or Zumba classes.

"We have some people who do that," he said. "This just gives them something a little different."

Stevenson said workouts can range from easy to hard, depending on the customer's needs.

"We can do real easy stuff, or do an intense cardio workout with weights," he said.

The Health Zone also has an Aqua Massage machine, said Stevenson. With 36 jets, customers can get the equivalent of an hour massage in 20 minutes.

The Health Zone is located at 226 W. Third Ave. in downtown Moses Lake.

The studio is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
