Othello soccer drops match to Toppenish

TOPPENISH - Most coaches would have cause for concern if their team got off to a 0-3 start at the beginning of the season. But such is not the case for the Othello's Bernie Garza who remains optimistic about his Huskies.

"We've played well in all three matches and have been missing starters who were ineligible due to grades," he said. "But we'll be okay as we should be back at full strength for the start of league play next week."

The Huskies and Wildcats played even futbol until Toppenish got on the board 33 minutes into the contest on an unassisted goal by Armando Robles to take a 1-0 lead.

The score held up until Cervando Fuentes (Jonathan Robles) found the back of the Huskie box at the 60th minute of action. Armando Robles second goal of the match at the 68 minute-mark closed out the scoring for the game and gave Toppenish a 3-0 win.

"We made several mistakes on defense and they made us pay for it," Garza said. "So, we are 0-3 now with four more nonleague games to play until we have Prosser Tuesday at home to open league play."

Keeper Angel Rangel had 10 saves for Othello. Olivero Sanchez recorded 5 for Toppenish.
