Moses Lake boys first at POD match

WENATCHEE - Moses Lake opened league play with a 25-stoke victory at the par 72 Wenatchee Golf and Country Club Monday.

The Chiefs finished with a team score of 325, Wenatchee was second with 350, Eisenhower shot 365 to earn a third place finish, Eastmont was fourth at 368 and Sunnyside took fifth with 393. No score was recorded for Davis.

Moses Lake was led by Tanner Montgomery who shot 77 and was the low round medalist for the tournament. Brody Milbrandt carded 80, Kellan Roellich turned in an 83, Brenden Cox shot 85, Nick Sutherland finished with an 87, and Trent Jones shot 100 in his first varsity match.

"I was really proud of the whole group as we started the year out with a league win, which is the first step in our team goal of being Big 9 league champions," coach JR Cox said. "Tanner Montgomery was medalist winning by three shots which was outstanding especially with the windy conditions. I really like his attitude right now and he is setting the bar high for the rest of our team to match."

The Chiefs are back on the links March 27 for the Canyon Lakes Invite in Kennewick.

"The match will include quite of few teams from the entire upper and lower Columbia Basin," Cox said. "It should show how we'll stack up against those schools."
