Chiefs baseball takes two games

MOSES LAKE - The Chiefs pulled out a come-from-behind 5-4 win over Kent Meridian in game one at Larson Field Saturday, and then led from start to finish in a 5-2 victory over Ferris in game two to close out preseason play.

Moses Lake finished on a three-game win streak having beaten University High School March 11, and looks to build on the momentum when the Chiefs open regular season play at home against Davis today at 4 p.m.

"I thought we played pretty well ... especially against Ferris," coach Quintz Whitaker said. "It was good to see us come back against Kent-Meridian and then jump out to a 4-0 lead against Ferris after such an emotional game."

Kent-Meridian got out to an early 4-0 lead in game one and looked to be in complete control as Moses Lake posted goose eggs through 5 and a half innings.

But a 2-run, two-strike triple by Jordan Hooper in the bottom of the 6th jump-started the Chiefs offense to get Moses Lake within a run, 4-3.

The Chiefs held the Royals off the board in the top of the seventh, and then added 2 runs in their half of the frame to pull out the win.

"Brett Moser led off the inning with a single and stole second, and an RBI double by Drew Loera tied it," Whitaker said. "Then an infield hit by Brad Fox brought Drew in with the winning run. It was a heck of a job by the guys to fight back and win it."

Fox had the hot bat for the Chiefs going 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and 1 RBI. Hooper had one hit in two plate appearances with 2 RBI.

Chase Tunstall got the start for Moses Lake. Spencer Street came on in relief and Hunter Boyd picked up the win.

Game two saw Moses Lake put 3 runs on the board in the Chiefs first at bat, and a run in the bottom of second to take a 4-0 lead.

The score held up until Ferris got 2 runs back in the top of the fourth to make a game of it, 4-2. Moses Lake got an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth to get a bit of breathing room, 5-2, and then shut down the Saxons the last two innings to come away with the win.

Colton Kelly went 2-for-2 at the plate, and Elliott Sage finished with 2 hits in 3 at bats and 2 RBI for Moses Lake.

Jacob Price was the winning pitcher of record for the Chiefs.

Moses Lake is back on the diamond today for a single home game against the Davis Pirates to open league play. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
