Warren Edmund Higgins

Warren Edmund Higgins, 89, of Moses Lake, WA, passed away on March 11, 2013.

Warren was born on June 16, 1923 to Roy and Maud Thornburg in Omaha, Nebraska. Maud died in childbirth and he was later adopted by Earl and Minnie Mae Higgins. He was raised on a farm in Auburn, Nebraska, graduating from Auburn High School in 1941.

Warren was drafted into the US Army in 1944 and saw action in France, Holland, Germany and Belgium. He was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge during the winter of 1944-1945 and received the Purple Heart.

Following WWII he worked as a longshoreman in Vancouver, WA, an overhead crane operator for Weyerhauser in Springfield, OR, and went to work for Herrett Trucking out of Sunnyside, WA in 1954. He enjoyed a long career as a trucker, driving for Herrett, Patton, Easley, Western Tank, Arrow, and hauling fuel for the Whitney brothers in Moses Lake.

Warren enjoyed meeting with old friends at the Herrett Trucking reunions, and he made lifelong friends wherever he lived. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, traveling with his wife and friends in their RV and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, wife and mother of his three children Jean Hile Higgins, and second wife Ann. He is survived by his loving wife Mary of Moses Lake, daughter Jane Kealy of Mukilteo, daughter Susan (Paul) Stamschror of Sunnyside, and son Daniel (Robin) Higgins of Hugo, OK. He is also survived by grandchildren Sean (Bethany) Stamschror of Seaside, OR, Elisabeth (Jason) Fonfara of Yakima, Sarah (Aaron) Fink of Kirkland, Casey (Brynn) Stamschror of Zillah, Shannon (Jared) Castaneda of Derby, KS, Kyle Ellison and Mary Jane (Eric) Booth of Hugo, OK, eighteen great-grandchildren and special stepchildren and step-grandchildren.

A celebration of Warren's life is planned for this summer.
