Tiger boys beat Bulldogs

ELLENSBURG - Ephrata tennis opened up Central Washington Athletic Conference (CWAC) action with a split on the road against Ellensburg Tuesday.

The boys shut out the Bulldogs 5-0, while the girls dropped their match, 4-1 to the home team.

Boys

Ephrata's No. 1 singles Hunter Sears dominated Tim Miller 6-1, 6-1. It took four sets to determine the winner in the No. 2 singles match up as Garner Sears turned back Ryland Higdon 6-7, (5-7), 6-0, 6-2.

Michael Bosnar and Matt Jones got by Eric Hurson and Stephen Chmeleski 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles match.

In the No. 2 doubles it was Jordan Brzezny and Mauricio Contreras beating Galen Zimmerman and RJ Johnston in two sets, 6-1, 6-4, and Conner Maddalozzo and Stenn Monson beat Brennan Radich and Duncan Hansberry 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 3 doubles match.

Girls

Things didn't turn out so well for the Lady Tigers as they dropped four of five games to Ellensburg. The Bulldogs No. 1 singles player Naomi Kooistra defeated Mary Kelleher 6-3, 6-3 in the first match of the day.

Ephrata bounced back with a win in the No. 2 singles game as  Teighan Moore defeated Rachele Barker in two sets, 6-2, 6-1. But the Tigers lost all three doubles games. Kim Beck and Tessa Ratigan, Ephrata's No. 1 doubles dropped their match to Gese Gruber and Elli  Siks, 1-6, 2-6. The No. 2 doubles Demi Brekhus and Stephanie Olivares were turned back by Mary Lonowski and Jennifer Jackson, 4-6, 6-3, 2-6, and No. 3 doubles Aubrey Smith and Roni Wenz lost their match 0-6, 3-6 to Jasmine Sanchez and Helena McLeod.

Ephrata was back on the court Thursday, but the results of the match were not available at press time.
