Man pleads guilty in Munoz shooting

EPHRATA - A George man accused of fatally shooting Ramiro Munoz, Jr. in September 2011 plead guilty this week to second-degree murder in Grant County Superior Court.

Gerardo M. Valenzuela Navarro, 20, will be sentenced on April 12, according to Grant County Prosecutor Angus Lee.

A gang member reportedly approached a man on C Street in Quincy in September 2011 and asked him why he wasn't hanging around with the gang anymore, according to a previous Columbia Basin Herald article. The man told the gang member he had to leave because they were having a family reunion, according to records.

Munoz, a Quincy father of seven, and another person then reportedly approached the gang member and also told him he had to leave. The man became angry, and eventually ran away from the group, according to the previous article.

The men followed to make sure the gang member left, according to records. Valenzuela Navarro and another man then reportedly came out from a nearby house.

Valenzuela Navarro reportedly fired two or three shots at the men, according to a previous article.

Munoz told Valenzuela Navarro not to shoot, and reportedly challenged him to a fist fight, according to records. Valenzuela then allegedly shot at Munoz, killing him.

Prosecutors also charged Eddie Alvarez Hernandez, 21, and Erwin Vasquez, 20, both of Quincy, in the 2011 shooting. Alvarez Hernandez and Vasquez both face a count of second-degree murder, according to court records.
