Warden softball sweeps Cle Elum

WARDEN - The Cougars started off the season in grand fashion with a twin killing over Cle Elum/Roslyn Saturday.

Warden turned back the Warriors 8-1 in game one, and then blew past the visiting team 13-3 in five innings in game two.

"I like where we are at after a couple weeks practice," coach Wes Richins said. "The younger girls are meshing with the older girls and got a chance to show what they could do as we were missing four of our starters."

The Cougars jumped up top 4-0 after the first two innings of play. The Warriors got their only run of the game in the top of the third. Warden added 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth to cruise to the win.

Game two of the doubleheader was cut short as the 10-run rule was invoked after the Warriors at bat in the top of the fifth inning.

The Cougars took control leading 7-3 after two innings of play and added 4 runs in the bottom of the third and a run in the bottom of the fourth to win in a cakewalk.

Freshman Aaliyah Enriquez was the winning pitcher of record in both games, fanning 14 Warrior batters. She also went 3-for-5 with a double in her debut.

Freshmen Shania Kisler and Brenna Whitney were 3-for-5 at the plate as well. Kisler swiped 4 bases to boot. Mixey Gonzales had 4 hits on the day including a triple, two doubles and 3 RBI. Senior Haley Yamane had 3 hits in 3 at bats in game two.

"We moved up to 1A after two years at 2B and will be led by senior Iris Rodriguez an all-state infielder and pitcher and Bianca Hernandez catcher," Richins said. "We like that we will have competition most days and get to see two-time defending champion Connell."

The Cougars take to the diamond Saturday when the teams heads south for a twin bill with Goldendale."
