Undersheriff allegedly fails to yield in crash

| March 14, 2013 6:00 AM

SOAP LAKE - The state patrol determined Grant County Undersheriff Dave Ponozzo failed to yield the right of way in a collision this week near Soap Lake.

Ponozzo and the driver of the other vehicle, Linda Ann Mitchell, 63, of Soap Lake, were injured and taken to Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata for unknown injuries Monday afternoon.

On Tuesday, Sheriff Tom Jones said Ponozzo was getting X-rays for his injuries.

It started when Ponozzo was heading east on state Route in a 2011 Ford Explorer when he allegedly struck a 1994 Buick Lasabre stopped in the left turn lane waiting to turn onto Dry Coulee Road, according to the state patrol. Ponozzo's vehicle continued east and off the road.

The collision is still under investigation.
