MOSES LAKE - Three hits by Elliot Sage, 2 RBI from Colton Kelly and solid pitching on the bump allowed Moses Lake to pick up a victory at home against the University Titans Monday at Larson Field.

"It was nice to get a win after not playing so well at our jamboree in Walla Walla Saturday," coach Quintz Whitaker said. "I was pleased to see the adjustments we made ... see our timing come around and playing better defense."

The Chiefs brought a run across the plate in the team's first at bat to take 1-0 lead.

University tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third, but that was all runs the Titans mustered.

Moses Lake added 2 in the bottom of the third to regain the lead 3-1, then put a run on the board in the fourth and 3 in the sixth to seal the win.

The Chiefs are back in action Saturday when they host single games against Kent Meridian and Ferris High School.

The first game gets underway at 10 a.m.

Moses Lake opens league play at home against the Davis Pirates March 19.

"The league has a different look this year with the new configuration, so I think the North teams will have a good chance to make some noise," Whitaker said. "I think we have a real good chance of competing with the likes of last year's league champion Wenatchee if our pitching and defense comes around."
