Susan Pearl Kilpatrick

| March 6, 2013 5:00 AM

A daughter, a wife, and a mother; lost but who lives on in memory. Susan Pearl Kilpatrick passed away March 1, 2013 at the University of Washington Medical Center from complications following a nine year battle with cancer. Her husband, Jess Kilpatrick, was at her side as she passed. A lifelong resident of Moses Lake, Washington, she was 52 years old.

Susan was born in Moses Lake, Washington on May 26, 1960, the fifth child and only daughter of Delbert and Louzena Tebow. Growing up, she was the apple of her father's eye and the best friend of her mother. After graduating high school, she pursued many careers and interests, including being a veterinary assistant at Broadway Animal Hospital, legal aide, waitress at Southshore, and office manager at Snowbird Industries. She eventually combined her artistic talents with her entrepreneurial spirit to open Susie's Uniques Floral and Gifts in the fall of 1989, which she owned until her death. Even after her cancer diagnosis in 2004 she managed the Moses Lake Convention Center in addition to the flower shop for five years from 2005-2009.

In addition to her professional life, she had a life-long love of music and art, and was active in the community. Susan, an avid singer and guitarist, often performed in programs at the Christ United Church for many years throughout the 1970s and 1980s. She also taught Sunday school there, impacting the lives of many children. Throughout the 1990's she was heavily involved with both the Moses Lake Miss America and Junior Miss scholarship programs where she mentored many young women. In addition, she served as regional coordinator for the Washington state History Day competition for 1998 and 1999. On April 16th, 1983 she married the love of her life, Jess Kilpatrick. That same year she gave birth to her daughter, Katey Kilpatrick, and in 1987 to her son Raymond. She regarded these two events as the happiest of her life.

Susan was preceded in death by her father, Delbert H. Tebow and brother Robert. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Jess, her children Katey, and Raymond, her mother, Louzena, and her brothers Delbert, Ronnie, and Lonnie, along with many nieces and nephews. Her life may not have been one long-lived, but it was a life lived well.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Pioneer Memorial Gardens in Moses Lake.
