Spuds sweep twin bill at home

MOSES LAKE - The Spuds played the role of an welcoming host as they took both games of a nonleague doubleheader against Timberline at Larson field last night.
The team raced past the Blazers 8-1 in the opener, then shut out the visitors 4-0 in the nightcap.
"I thought the kids had a better approach to the games today," coach Jameson Lange said. "They played to the velocity of pitches thrown to them and ran well on the base paths. Spencer Street got his first start of the season and pitched well in the second game. He's usually in a relief role, so this was a big confidence builder for him. Cameron Ball came on in relief of Spencer and did a fine job too. He's such a competitor ... our go-to-guy who we can always count on to keeps things close for us."

A sacrifice bunt by Brett Moser brought Elliott Sage home from third base to put the Spuds up 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning.
The Spuds increased their lead to 4-0 with three in the bottom of the third. The Blazers got one back in the top of the fourth to make it 4-1.
But the Spuds weren't through scoring as they hung two runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to seal the win.
Gunner Raymond was the big stick for the Spuds, going three-for-three at the plate with two doubles and one RBI. Jacob Price went three innings on the bump to pick up the win.

Spencer Street and Cameron Ball combined for a one-hit shut out in the second game of the twin bill. The Spuds scored a run in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead. The team added two more in the fourth, and then held Timberline off the board the last three innings to come away the win.
The sweep over the Blazers improved the Spuds (6-4) to 13-9 overall. The team gets back to league play Saturday when they travel to Richland for doubleheader action with the Twin City Titans.
The Spuds host a twin bill with the Titans Sunday at Larson Field. The first game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
