COLUMBIA BASIN - After a week of rain, the Columbia Basin can expect record temperatures this weekend and into next week.

The National Weather Service in Spokane issued a statement Wednesday for above normal temperatures in the Moses Lake area and Upper Columbia Basin, with temperatures likely above 100 degrees Monday and Tuesday.

According to the weather service, temperatures should reach the mid-90s by Friday and continuing into the weekend, caused by high pressure building into the region from the southwest and Great Basin.

The weather service is warning people the prolonged hot weather can increase the risk of heat related illnesses and precautions should be taken, especially for anyone who works outdoors or is participating in other outdoor activities.
