Chiefs go 5-0 in Chehalis

CHEHALIS - I can't recall an indoor basketball game ever being rained out. But low and behold, it happened to the Chiefs Sunday in the championship game of the Chehalis tournament.

Moses Lake breezed through the competition, taking three games in pool play, and two in the championship bracket by a 21.8 point average margin of victory.

The Chiefs rolled past North Thurston 58-10 in Game 1, beat Lynden Christian 48-35 in Game 2, defeated Yelm 50-32 in Game 3, dominated Lynden in a quarterfinal match up, 49-25, then pulled out a 50-36 win in a semifinal game against White River.

The five wins landed Moses Lake in the championship game. But the contest never took place as Mother Nature had something else in mind. A leaky roof didn't help matters much either.

"A torrential downpour caused leaks in the roof of the gym and hallway areas of Chehalis High School so the game was cancelled," coach Matt Strophy said. " We were scheduled to play Lynden Christian, a team we had already beaten in pool play, so we were awarded the tournament championship."

McKenna Walker tallied 63 points to lead the tournament scoring for Moses Lake. Jessie Loera had 50. Both pulled down 25 boards.

The Chiefs varsity record for summer play is 27-8.

The team has two summer league games and one tournament at Kentlake High this weekend left on its schedule.
