POCATELLO, Idaho - Members of the Moses Lake Wresting Club (MLWC) were among more than 3,000 wrestlers who participated in the week long West Kids and Cadet Regional Tournament in Pocatello, Idaho June 16-22.

The event took place at the Holt Arena on the campus of Idaho State University, and boasted some of the top youth wrestlers (5 to 18 year-olds) from 11 states across the nation.

Two Moses Lake grapplers turned in outstanding performance as they stood on the podium five times to receive medals in the Freestyle, Greco, and Folkstyle competition.

Maximus Holmes Zamora (9) wrestled in the Intermediate (70-pound) bracket and placed first in Folkstyle, and fifth in Greco. Hunter White (9) moved up a weight bracket to compete at 87 pounds for the first time, and took medals in all three styles.  He placed third in Greco, fourth in Folkstyle, and fifth in Freestyle.

"I had a great experience ... it was lots of fun," Hunter said. "I normally wrestle at 80 pounds, so the kids I wrestled were a lot bigger than me. But I was quicker than they were. I expected to have a lot of success there because I work really hard, love the sport, and wanted to make my parents proud."

A third Moses Lake wrestler, Cooper McCullough, had a very successful tournament as well.

He faced off at 106 pounds against some tough opponents and came away with several wins. McCullough is an exclusive member of Team Washington that competed at the Idaho Western States Junior Duals the second week of June.

"I thought the boys did a great job of wrestling at the tournament," Ron Seibel, now in is fifth year as head coach of the MLWC, said. "It was awesome to see Max and Hunter take the podium five out of the six chances they got, and anytime a kid like Cooper can pick up and win some summertime matches, its a good thing to see."

All three boys qualified for the ASICS United States Association of Wrestling Nationals hosted in Orem, Utah, which is currently taking place, and the USAW Cadet Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota July 12-20.

"With year round training in the sport of wrestling, the Moses Lake Wrestling Club could not be more proud of the dedication, hard work, and good spirit that all of their club members and parents put forth everyday both on and off of the mat," Allison White, board member MLWC, said.

The Moses Lake Wrestling Club, originally named the Whizzer Club, formed in the late 60's.

Members were high school aged kids, but over the years, have become younger to where kids age 5 and older now participate. .
