Moses Lake native finalist for 'Tribute for Heroes'

| June 27, 2013 12:30 PM

MOSES LAKE — You can still vote for local hero Nick Kimmel in the MLB and People magazine’s ongoing campaign to honor veterans and military service members nationwide. Kimmel was announced as one of San Diego Padres’ finalist in a recent Padres Press Release along with fellow veterans Ann Holman and Josh Hooker.

Kimmel enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2008. During his second deployment to Afghanistan he stepped on an improvised explosive device, losing both legs above the knee and his left arm above the elbow. Kimmel is still able to weld, drive a car, snowboard, and offers support and inspiration to fellow veterans and students from Moses Lake High School. Kimmel has been awarded a Purple Heart, a Combat Action Ribbon and a Navy Achievement Award, among other accolades.

Vote at TributeForHeroes.com through June 30. For more information read Friday’s Columbia Basin Herald.
