WENATCHEE - The Walleyes took two out of four ball games at the tournament in Wenatchee over the weekend.

Tyson Karstetter went yard with a three-run shot to lead the Walleyes to a 6-3 win over Sumner Friday in Game 1. Hunter Boyd pitched five innings of five hit ball and fanned seven batters to record the win.

Karstetter set the pace for the Walleyes in the second game of the day as well, going three-for-four at the plate with a home run, a triple, three RBI and two runs scored in a 7-3 win over Eastmont. Hunter Boyd had two hits in four at bats with a double and two RBI. Jared Haddican went six innings on the hill to pick up the win.

"We played really well on Friday after not getting in much practice time due to all the rain during the week," coach Quintz Whitaker said. "It was nice to see Tyson getting back in tune after coming back from an injury he suffered playing high school ball. I thought Jared pitched well against Eastmont, giving up just two runs and striking out five."

Game 3

The Walleyes took a 2-1 lead into the top of the seventh inning against the Bellevue Phiten Saturday afternoon. But the wheels came off the bus as Bellevue exploded for six runs to go up top 7-2. The Walleyes got two runs back  in the bottom of the frame to round out the scoring for the game, 7-4.

"Bellevue is a pretty good team, but we were able to go up 2-0 after getting their first 19 batters out," Whitaker said. "Kevin Cosper (starting pitcher) got hurt in the  third inning, and Anthony Longmire came on and pitched well. But we didn't defend well and gave up six runs in their last at bat."

Game 4

The Walleyes took two of three games in pool play, which landed the team in the semifinal round for a contest against Brewster for the right to stay alive in the tournament.

The see-saw battle saw the Walleyes get on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning. Brewster tied the game in the bottom of the second.

The Walleyes regained the lead, 4-1 with three runs in the top of the third. Brewster, refusing to lie down, knotted things up 4-4 with three in the bottom of the inning.

The Walleyes went back in front with a run in the top of the fifth. Brewster answered back with two in the bottom of the frame, and then held the Walleyes off the board the rest of the way to record  a 6-5 come-from-behind win.

The Walleyes (5-4) return to league action July 1 when the team hosts a doubleheader against Eastmont at Larson Field. The first game is scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m.

"It'll be nice to get back to league play," Whitaker said. "Our ultimate goal is to make the playoffs and make noises when we get there, so we're looking to build some momentum, with a strong finish down the stretch."
