Royal City man hit by truck, killed

| June 26, 2013 12:45 PM

ROYAL CITY — A 77-year-old Royal City man was on his way to go fishing when he was struck and killed by a truck Wednesday morning near Royal City.

Manuel Orozco Garcia was apparently trying to cross state Route 26 and was carrying his tackle box and fishing pole, about a half mile east of Royal City, according to Trooper Darren Wright.

That’s when Garcia reportedly walked in front of a 2007 Sierra pickup and trailer and was hit. The driver, Oscar Alejandro Nunez, 23, of Pasco, was not hurt.

Garcia died at the scene.

Nunez was not at fault and will not be cited, according to Wright.

Wright explained that pedestrians have the right of way within reason, and Garcia was not at a crosswalk.
