BBCC president: summer classes on schedule

| June 26, 2013 1:00 PM

MOSES LAKE - Whether or not the Washington Legislature reaches agreement on a new budget by Sunday, Big Bend Community College will open for summer quarter on Monday.

Legislators must come to agreement by Sunday or some state programs will be shut down on Monday. The lack of a state budget also would scramble K-12 and college budgets, since the bulk of their funding comes from the state.

President Terry Leas said BBCC has enough money to maintain its summer schedule. That will allow programs that traditionally have summer schedules, such as nursing and aviation, to continue uninterrupted.

The college trustees haven't approved a 2013-14 budget due to the lack of a legislative agreement, Leas said, but that will happen when the legislature passes a budget.
