Paula Garza

| June 25, 2013 6:00 AM

Paula Garza was born on June 18, 1930 in San Benito, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Felipe and Petra Garza and was called home by her Creator on her 83rd birthday, this past Tuesday June 18th at home surrounded by her family and relatives. Paula was the youngest of 11 siblings: Ignacia, Inez, Agapito, Pablo, Jose Marciano, Tomasa, Canuto, Alberto, Juan, and Timoteo. On February, 1947 Paula married Porfirio Garza. Together they had 12 children. The family migrated from Mexico to Bishop, Texas following agricultural seasonal jobs. From Bishop to the Yakima Valley in Washington and then to Moses Lake which became their permanent home.

She was blessed with 45 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Paula will be joining her beloved husband of 54 years, Porfirio; two of her children, Lino and Leonardo, two grandsons, Jesus and Moises; and two great grandchildren, who have gone before her. Living children are: Leonar, widow to Leonardo; Benigno (Sylvia); Felipe (Lourdes); Petra; Porfirio (Martha); Canuto (Paula); Juan; Alberto (Maria), Maria Inez; Ricardo (Elisa); all from Moses Lake, and Agapito (Leticia) from Austin, Texas.

She leaves a rich Christian faith for her children to follow: to love and serve the Lord. She loved the word of God and her favorite verse was Phillipians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Every time she had the opportunity, she raised her beautiful voice to worship God in song. She also was well known and will be remembered for her Mexican sugar cookies, cooking and her tasty tamales. Her other interests included crocheting, gardening, flowers, and enjoying life. She was very much loved and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
