All-Star Football Game Friday

MOSES LAKE - A packed crowd is expected to be on hand for the 49th annual Washington State East-West High School All-Star Football Game at Lions Field Friday night.

Approximately 70 of the top prep players from 3A and 4A schools across the state began arriving in Moses Lake Sunday for the event that kicks off at 7 p..m. June 21.

Senior Justyn Simmons, a three-year starter at quarterback for Moses Lake High School will be the lone representative for the Chiefs. He is the first Moses Lake player selected to participate in the annual event since 2009.

The game has been played in three locations over the years: Central Valley High School in Spokane (three times), the Tri-Cities (once) and the rest at Memorial Stadium in Everett.

The event is expected to bring approximately 5,000 people into Moses Lake and the surrounding area. The week-long stay for the athletes in Moses Lake is not entirely focused on football as plenty of outside activities are on the itinerary including plans to take them to the aquatic center, to attend a barbeque and a Rotary luncheon with guest speaker Peter Simon, who is an assistant coach at the University of Washington, played professionally for the Tennessee Titans, collegiately for the University of Oregon, and is a former Walla Walla Blue Devil.

There will also be a community dinner night where people can prepare dinner for three or four of the kids and maybe show them around Moses Lake as well.

"This should be a great week for all the kids coming to town," Loren Sandhop, Moses Lake High School athletic director said. "We are hoping to pack the stands and prove to the Washington State Coaches Association Moses Lake is worthy of being included in the rotation of the annual game."
