Sonico employee has different interpretation

| June 14, 2013 6:00 AM

I am asking for the help primarily of the POML, but also the Grant County EDC, Chamber of Commerce, The Community Economic Revitalization Board, Grant County, and any other organization that promotes "small business" in Moses Lake or Washington, and also the other 37 tenants that lease from the POML.

I've lived in Moses Lake all my life and have worked at Sonico for 23 years. I'm in fear of losing my job along with 39 co-workers due to the POML refusal to be fair with Sonico.

Yes, it's true 15 years ago (1998) there was an evaluation done on our shop building 408 that showed some structural damage to the building, and again in 2012, which showed no additional structural damage to the building. We should be good for another 15 years! That is how I "interpret" the structural assessments.

I don't know how many people have actually read a structural assessment, but in my opinion they are very open to "interpretation" using words as "some risk."

What does that really mean? Our Port commission consists of a realtor, an accountant, and a background in agriculture finance/politician, all with no aviation background. Do they really understand what we do? I hoped the realtor would be helpful with knowledge of building structures, but my guess is he's only dealt with new home sales. The POML told Sonico we are being evicted for basically "safety purposes" my "interpretation" of "safety" is being able to pay the mortgage, a car note, putting groceries on the table, and sending my daughter to college.

What about Genie, Chemi-con, Columbia Pacific Aviation, just to name a few of the other 37 tenants. How long before the POML evicts you? All these buildings are roughly the same age and I would think the leases are all written in the same manor, either party can terminate if the building is found in someone's "interpretation" to be "unsafe." What about the Port of Ephrata? I don't believe the POML has exhausted all their options in allowing Sonico to remain in this building for a reasonable amount of time. If there is a will there is a way!

Please do the right thing and make my co-workers and I feel safe again.
