Spuds split twin bill with Bandits

MOSES LAKE - The Spuds dropped Game 1 of the doubleheader with the Kennewick Bandits at Larson Field last night, but bounced with a win in the nightcap to improve their record to 5-1 in the Central Washington League standings.

"It was nice to finish with a quality split after getting our tails kicked in the first game," coach Jameson Lange said. "The win gives us some good momentum as we head to Kennewick Wednesday for another doubleheader with the Bandits."

It would have been fairly easy for the Spuds to fold their tents in the second game of yesterday's twin bill after the team committed four errors and gave up eight walks to Kennewick in an 11-1 defeat.

But Lange was able to get his guys to put the game behind them and turn in a performance worthy of the teams talent in a 7-3 win in Game 2.

"We had some timely two-out hits and a solid five and two-thirds innings from Jacob Price on the mound," Lange said. "Mason Mathews looked good over the last inning and a third to close things out."

The Spuds got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first. Kennewick answered back with two in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead. Neither team scored in the third.

The Bandits hung one on the board in the top of the fourth to push the score to 3-1.

A run by the Spuds in the bottom of the inning closed the gap to 3-2. The Spuds brought three runs across the plate in the bottom of the fifth to take their first lead of the game, 5-3, then added two more in the bottom of the sixth to close out the scoring, 7-3.

Colton Kelly and Zach Wolf finished with two RBI each. Price was credited with the win.
