Xtreme Basketball Camp underway

MOSES LAKE - The third annual Xtreme Basketball Instruction Hoops Camp is in full swing at Moses Lake High School.
More than 80 kids from grades 3-10 hit the hardwood each day of the five-day event to receive insight and instruction on the basic fundamentals of the game of basketball from high school and colleges coaches and players, and then get the opportunity to show what they are learning as they participate in daily competition.
The venue was originally known as the Big Bend Camp.
"I started the camp about 26 years ago when John Hohman, the Moses Lake High School boys basketball coach was an assistant of mine," BBCC head coach Mark Poth said. "The name has been changed a few times over the years and we've now settled on XBI. We have three levels of instruction; Varsity for third through fifth grade kids, College for sixth and seventh graders, and NBA for eighth and ninth."
Poth and Hohman have more than 50 years of combined coaching experience. Poth's teams at BBCC have averaged over 20 wins per season and have won eight NWAACC Eastern Region Championships. Poth has been named Coach of the Year eight times.
It's too late to sign up for this camp, but kids are invited to participate next year.
The camp typically takes place the third week of June. The cost to attend is $115. Participants must provide their own medical insurance. Individual and team competition awards, T-shirts and a certificate of participation are issued to attending campers.
