No decision on trying Moses Lake boy as adult

EPHRATA - A decision on whether or not the 14-year-old Moses Lake boy charged with shooting his parents will be tried as an adult has been delayed again.

Deputy Prosecutor Kevin McCrae and defense attorney Lyliane Couture asked for more time so the boy could be evaluated by a psychiatrist and a psychologist. The next hearing is scheduled for July 8.

The boy is charged with two counts of attempted murder for shooting his parents while they slept on March 8.

His bail was set at $500,000

According to the police report, the boy allegedly took a .22 caliber pistol from a locked gun case, loaded it and waited around 90 minutes before he decided to walk into his parents' bedroom and shoot them.

Jon and Elizabeth Brooks, the boy's parents, survived the shooting and were taken to an out-of-area hospital.

Since the arrest, the court ruled that the boy's parents are allowed to visit him in the juvenile detention center, but they cannot discuss the case and must be supervised.
