MOSES LAKE - A three-games series sweep over West Valley over the weekend has the Moses Lake Walleyes above the .500 mark for the first time since opening day May 23.

The team took a doubleheader in Yakima Saturday, and then won a lopsided single game at Moses Lake High School Sunday.

The three wins improve the Walleyes to 5-4 on the season.

Game 1 of the twin bill saw the Walleyes jump out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. West Valley responded with a run in the bottom of the frame to make it 2-1.

Moses Lake pushed the score to 4-1 with a run in the top of the third and fourth innings. West Valley got a run back in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap to 4-2.

But that was as close as the home team would get as they were held off the board the rest of the way.

The Walleyes brought two runners across the plate in the fifth and seventh innings to round out the scoring for the game, 8-2.

Ryan Pena and Hunter Boyd had two hits in four at bats for the Walleyes. Adrian Hernandez was 2-for-5 with a home run and a double. Boyd went the distance on the hill, pitching seven innings of two-hit ball while fanning 13 West Valley hitters.

West Valley got out to a 3-1 lead after the first inning of play in the night cap of the doubleheader. Neither team scored in the second inning.

But the Walleyes hung one on the board in the top of the third, five in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth to blow the game wide open, 12-3.

West Valley added a run in the bottom of the sixth to bring the final tally to 12-4 Walleyes.

Adrian Hernandez had the hot bat for Moses Lake going 4-for-5 at the plate with two triples and five RBI. Derek Crum had two hit in four at bats with a double.

Anthony Longmire gave up two runs off seven hits in six innings of work to record the win for the Walleyes. Blake Springer pitched one inning of relief.

Walleyes 11

West Valley 7

Hunter Boyd drove in four runs to lead the Walleyes to their third win in a row as they turned back West Valley Sunday afternoon, 11-7. West Valley put the first run on the board in the top of the second inning.

Six unanswered Walleye runs over the next two innings gave the home team a 6-1 lead. West Valley got two back in the top of the fifth to get within three, 6-3.

The Walleyes pushed the score to 11-3 in the bottom of the inning on the strength of a three-run single by Boyd. Boyd hit what appeared to be a grand slam over the left field fence, but missed second as he rounded the bases. He was called out on the appeal and was credited with just a single and three RBI.

West Valley threatened to make a game of it with a run in the seventh, two in the eighth and one in the ninth, but came up short and dropped the contest, 11-7.

Boyd led the Walleye offensive attack with two hits in three plate appearances and four RBI. Blake Springer went 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Carson Fisk finished with three hits in four at bats.

Kevin Cosper gave up three runs off four hits in six innings to pick up the win for the Walleyes. Jared Haddican pitched three innings in relief.

The Walleyes are back on the diamond for a three-day tournament at University High School in Spokane this weekend.
