Moses Lake Dutch Bros. raises money for MDA
The Moses Lake Dutch Bros. raised more than $1,500 during its May 3 fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
MOSES LAKE - Basin residents helped Dutch Bros. Coffee raise more than $1,500 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association during a fundraiser recently.
The Moses Lake drive-thru stand raised $1,634 for the association, according to a company statement.
Proceeds from all Dutch Bros. locations on May 3 went to the MDA, a group dedicated to fighting Lou Gehrig's Disease or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
About $271,500 was raised company-wide during MDA Day, according to the release. That amount surpasses last year's contribution by nearly $100,000.
MDA Day kicks of ALS Awareness Month and is held annually in honor of company co-founder Dane Boersma, according to the release.
Boersma was diagnosed with ALS in 2005 and died in 2009. ALS affects the parts of the nervous system that control voluntary muscle movement.
There is currently no cure for ALS.
In 2012, Dutch Bros. donated $174,000 to MDA. Since becoming involved with the association in 2007, the coffee company has donated more than $625,000.
The Moses Lake location is owned by Kristen Nelson.
