MOSES LAKE - The Walleyes, led by skipper Quintz Whitaker, are back in action for the 2013 season. Moses Lake's AA Legion Baseball Team is off to a 2-4 start, but their record isn't much of an indicator of how talented this years squad is.

The Walleyes split their season opening doubleheader with Othello at home May 23, winning the first game 11-1, and then dropping the second, 8-4.

The team lost its third game on the road to Othello 9-8 May 24, but bounced back with a 3-1 win in Game 1 of a twin bill with Wenatchee at Larson Field May 28. Wenatchee took Game 2, 9-4.

The Walleyes hit the road to Wenatchee for a single game May 29, but were turned back 6-3 in a game that produced a total of nine errors between the two teams.

Wenatchee took a 2-0 lead after two innings of play. The Walleyes answered back with two in the top of the third to tie it 2-2. Wenatchee put two on the board in the bottom of the inning to go back up top, 4-2. The Walleyes scored once in the top of the fifth, but that was as close as the team could get. Kevin Cosper was tagged with the loss.

"We really are trying to stress being solid defensively, but are a step slow mentally right now," Whitaker said. "Our goal for the team is to prepare the guys to play varsity ball at the high school level and to play playoff baseball in this league. There are seven teams competing and we need to be in the top four to make it."

The Walleyes were back on the diamond for two games this weekend.
