Dance-drill team receives entertainment award

MOSES LAKE - The Molahiettes, Moses Lake High School's drill and dance team, is this year's recipient of the Creative Precision Award (CPA).
The CPA is an annual end-of-the-year high school entertainment award that recognizes the best choreographed military teams in the country through the genre of dance and drill.
This is the third time in the past four years the Molahiettes have received the honor.
"We feel very honored to have received this award three out of the last four years. I did not coach in 2011, and the girls did not do a military number that year, so they were not up for the award," coach Lori Baker said. "This year I really went out on a limb with our military number ... knew the judges were either going to love it or hate it. I selected a Queen song and an interesting costume to match the song, and was so happy with the way it turned out. The girls were undefeated in this category, and won Pacific Northwest and State Championships with it."
Each November members of CPA begin an active search to find recipients that meet the selection committees criteria.
Formal submissions are also accepted from fans, coaches and choreographers, and then added to the pool of candidates. Approximately 100 nominations are sifted through to identify 25 elite finalist. That number is then whittled down to the 10 award winners.
The Molahiettes were the 2013 top vote getters.

Schiavone with the Creative Precision Awards, wrote in an e-mail sent to Baker May 28. "We hope this win will help encourage you and your team to add even more creativity to our national dance drill team landscape for years to come."
