MAC offers classes in August, September

MOSES LAKE - Abstract art, clay animals and the ecology of Moses Lake will be among the subjects covered in classes at the Moses Lake Museum and Art Center, 401 South Balsam St., during August and September.

A two-day class in abstract art actually begins July 30 and lasts through Aug. 1. The class is held from 10 a.m. to noon and all classes are in the museum classroom. It's targeted at third through fifth graders. Participants will produce two to four paintings in mediums including oil pastels, tempera paint and watercolor. Kathaleen McFarland is the instructor; class limit is 20 students. Cost is $35 per student, $31.50 for museum members.

The anatomy and physiology of owls will be the subject of a class in owl pellet dissection from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 7. Participants must be age 7 and older. Ann Golden is the instructor; class is limited to 10 kids. Cost is $10 per child, $9 for museum members

Children can learn to make clay sculptures, starting with animals, from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 13 through 15. The class is for third through sixth grades and will cover the basics of working with clay. Limit is 20 students, with a cost of $35 per child, $31.50 for museum members. McFarland is the instructor.

The ecological system of fresh water lakes, with Moses Lake as the focus, will be the subject of a class from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 17. Limit is 10 kids, ages 9 to 15, with a minimum of four. Sarah Oman is the instructor, and the class is $15 per person, $13.50 for museum members.

Kids ages 4 to 8 will learn how to paint like the classic cubist Pablo Picasso from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 17. Children will create a few paintings to take home. Limit is 20 children; McFarland is the instructor. Cost is $15 per child, $13.50 for museum members.

Animal printmaking is the subject of a class for children ages 3 and older from 2 to 3 p.m. Aug. 24. Crystal Dahlman is the instructor. The class has a limit of 12 kids, with a minimum of six. Cost is $15 per child, $13.50 for museum members.

One class is scheduled for September. Kids ages 9 to 15 can learn about cells from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 14, including making models of cells. Oman is the instructor. There's a limit of 10 students, with a minimum of six. Cost is $15 per person, $13.50 for museum members.
