OLYMPIA - Community members have until the end of next month to nominate their favorite Basin businesses for the state's 2013 Corporations for Communities Award.

The Corporations for Communities program is run by the Secretary of State's Corporations and Charities Division.

It began in 2009 as a way to recognize Washington businesses that show a commitment to improving their local or regional social and environmental conditions.

Secretary of State Kim Wyman said the award is way for the public to recognize some of the generous businesses in their local communities.

"Washington is blessed with many companies committed to giving back to their communities," she said in a recent statement. "Now more than ever, it is important to honor those corporations that make a difference."

Nomination forms can be found at www.sos.wa.gov/corps/corpsforcommunities. The nomination deadline is Aug. 31.

Any for-profit corporation, Limited Liability Corporation (LLC) or Limited Partnership is eligible for the award, according to information in the statement.

Nominees should be registered with the Office of the Secretary of State and must be in compliance with state and federal laws. Winners will be announced in early October, and an awards ceremony will be held later that month.

Jim's Pharmacy in Port Angeles and TreeTop in Selah were last year's Corporations for Communities Award recipients.
