ML Walleyes begin state tournament

WALLA WALLA - The Moses Lake Walleyes begin state tournament play today in Walla Walla.
The Walleyes secured the number two seed in their region with a pair of wins over Kennewick and Wenatchee in the district tournament last weekend.
The Walleyes had a shot at the number one seed and district championship, but lost to Walla Walla 12-1.
Walla Walla jumped on Moses Lake early, scoring 5 runs in the first inning and never gave up the lead.
Tyson Karstetter drove in the lone run for the Walleyes after homering in the second inning.
On paper, the Walleyes are the obvious underdog going into Saturday's opening round game against the Mt. Spokane Wild. Moses Lake, with a 21-20 record, is facing a Mt. Spokane club that boasts a 40-7 record.
The Wild posted a 10-0 league record and was unbeaten in their district tournament.
A potent offense and quality pitching has led to the team's success. Mt. Spokane's pitching staff posts a 2.69 earned run average (ERA) and the offense scores almost 9 runs per game.
A key for the Walleyes is Karstetter. Karstetter posted solid numbers throughout the Walleyes' district tournament schedule with 5 runs, 6 hits and 5 runs batted in (RBI) in four games.
