Ten Pin Brewing Co. serves first batch Friday

MOSES LAKE - Basin residents will be able to get their first taste of Ten Pin Brewing Co.'s craft beers later this week.

Ten Pin's Brooklyn Blonde, Stone 8 Pale Ale, Anchor Amber Ale, Snake Eye Stout and Deadwood IPA will be on tap at Papa's Casino starting Friday, Papa's BJ Garbe said.

The brews are made behind a see-through wall near the bar area in the casino. The idea to have an in-house brewery has been in the works for about a year and a half, he said.

"We thought it would be another unique element to this business," said Garbe. "We pride ourselves on being the entertainment place in Grant County and thought this would be a nice addition to that."

He said the brewery was named 'Ten Pin' as a way to highlight the place's history.

"Lake Bowl started in 1957 and it's because of that we've been able to add all the rest of this," he said. "Ten Pin is a name that takes us back to where we started."

Before any of the five varieties end up in customer's mugs, they spend at least a couple of weeks in one of the four fermenters.

Because each beer takes a different amount of time to make, they can ferment them on a staggered schedule, he said.

Garbe said this ensures all five beers are always available for customers.

Customers can order their favorite Ten Pin beer by the glass or the pitcher. They can also order the Rack or the Sample, he said.

The Rack is six 10 oz. glasses of any Ten Pin beer. Customers can customize their Rack any way they like.

Customers can try any four Ten Pin beers for $5 with the Sampler, he said.

Garbe said he recommends the Brooklyn Blonde for customers who are new to craft beers.

The Brooklyn Blonde is a blend of German Pilsner malt and Cascade hops.

"It's a real easy, everyday kind of drinking beer," he said.

Garbe also said the Anchor Amber Ale will be a hit with customers.

"It's got a deep red color and a little more flavor," he said.

Ten Pin's brewmaster Jim Madden said he recommends the Stone 8 Pale Ale.

"It's my favorite so far," he said. "The hops are from Yakima, delicious stuff that has that great piney, fruity aroma."

Madden said he has about 20 years of small-scale brewing experience. He said he enjoys the science behind making craft beers.

"And drinking the final product isn't bad either," Madden said.

He said developing the recipes for the five brews was a long process, but worth it.

"I'm proud of the final product, it's good stuff," he said.

Garbe said Ten Pin will have a Grand Opening party Friday night at the Casino. While the beer will be on tap all day, the fun starts at 7 p.m., he said.

"There will be great drink specials, giveaways and a BBQ on the patio," Garbe said.

Papa's Casino is located next to Lake Bowl at 1165 N. Stratford Rd. in Moses Lake.
