Tournament needs host families

MOSES LAKE - Host families are needed for The Babe Ruth League 14-year-old World Series tournament coming to Moses Lake.

Families would be responsible for lodging, transportation and food for the children. Teams arrive Friday August 16 and the tournament begins the next day. Games conclude Saturday August 25 and teams depart the following Sunday.

Moses Lake will be hosting teams from all over the United States and generous families can choose to accommodate two or three boys.

Host families are responsible for transporting the boys to and from their games and practices. A housing coordinator is assigned to each neighborhood and will help coordinate any transportation or group meals.

Those who choose to host players will receive family passes to the tournament.

According to Oscar Ochoa, response has been limited and about 25 more host families are needed before tournament play begins. Not having enough families would force the league to pay for Hotel costs.

"We've always been a very hospitable community," Ochoa said.

Ochoa believes that as the tournament draws closer families will step up and help provide a place to stay for the out of state teams.

For those worried about the transportation aspect of hosting players, Ochoa and two other parents are taking the week of the tournament off work to help out with shuttling players to and from the tournament festivities.
