George man allegedly assaults his mother
GEORGE - A George man barricaded himself inside a home Friday after allegedly assaulting his mother at her home near George.
Dan Mead, 56, was arrested and booked into Grant County Jail on suspicion of fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), obstructing officers and resisting arrest. Mead also had an outstanding arrest warrant, according to the sheriff's office.
On Friday, Mead allegedly assaulted his mother at her home in Sunland Estates west of George, then fled to his girlfriend's home in the 4900 block of Road U Southwest, according to the sheriff's office.
When responding deputies arrived, Mead reportedly slammed the door to the home and refused to comply with orders. Deputies were concerned Mead had access to firearms in the home and the Moses Lake Regional Tactical Response Team was called in to assist, according to the sheriff's office.
After three hours, Mead failed to surrender at the request of a sheriff's negotiator. The Tactical Response Team launched tear gas into the home. Mead finally surrenders about 10 minutes later and was taken into custody.
"It was a long, hot Friday for all local and regional law enforcement officers," Sheriff Tom Jones said. "I'm happy this suspect was able to be arrested safely and I appreciate the TRT members for their excellent work on this call."
