Service clubs raise funds for school defibrillators

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Kiwanis and Rotary clubs recently teamed in a golf tournament to raise funds for Automated External Defibrillators for local schools.
Through grants, donations and the golf tournament, the clubs raised about $36,000, enough to have at lead one AED in every public and Christian school in Moses Lake, beginning in the fall. The 108 golf tournament participants raised more than $9,500 at the event.
Moses Lake Kiwanis President Francis Irwin knows the importance of the life-saving devices.
"As a retired school nurse, I know AEDs save lives," Irwin said. "They are far more effective that CPR."
Rotarian Dave Campbell said both clubs are happy to play for a worthy cause.
"Both Rotary and Kiwanis consider protecting our children and education staff very important," he said. "The golf tournament was a hoot."
Tournament winners included a group from Les Schwab for the lowest gross score and the Canfield Four for lowest net score. Steve Slack hit the longest drive for the men, Donna Goude for the women. Bob Bersanti sank the longest putt for the men and Margie Milbrandt for the women.
