MOSES LAKE - The Spuds were scheduled to host the Big Bend Tournament over the weekend, but teams dropped out at the 11th hour, so they matched up with the Yakima Rattlers for twin bill action and came away with two wins.

The Spuds dominated the first game, 10-1, and then came from behind to pull out a 5-4 win in their last at bat in the bottom of the seventh inning in the nightcap.

"It was really nice to see the team approach these game with a better mentality than what they displayed in the make-up games against Pepsi Pak last Monday," coach Jameson Lange said. "They really came together as a team, hit the ball well, and our pitchers kept the ball down and threw a lot of first pitch strikes."

The Spuds are mathematically eliminated from postseason play so the games gave Lange an opportunity to get his bench players some much needed playing experience.

"We were able to start guys who typically don't get a chance to start games and they proved themselves," he said. "I am really proud of that."

The Spuds close out the season with a four-game series with the Wenatchee Apple Valley Packers. The team hosts a doubleheader with the Packers today at 5 p.m., then travel to Wenatchee tomorrow for two games to wrap things up.

"The Apple Packers are a lot like us, young and competitive," Lange said. "We are not going to make the playoffs, but we need to finish out strong, see what we are made of, and who we'll have coming back next season."
