Reader shares gratitude for act of kindness

| July 12, 2013 6:00 AM

Today an angel lifted the spirit in my heart and gave me a smile. With this letter, I want to thank him for the comforting thought and gift.

You see, it was a holiday, and I was sitting alone in the Safeway deli area, waiting for my daughter. My mind was wandering about the past, and I was thinking about my deceased husband and the many happy Fourth of Julys we spent together. This was my first one alone. A Hispanic man walked by, but I spaced him out, as I did with all the other shoppers who were hurrying by in every direction.

My daughter finally came and sat down with me. She was in conversation and I was trying to listen when suddenly the same man came up to me, excused himself and handed me the most beautiful yellow rose. He told me I looked so sad when he walked by, and he wanted to put a smile on my face. What a wonderful, caring person he must be! As fast as he was in front of me, he disappeared. I couldn't control my tears of happiness, and I wish to thank this kind person wherever and whoever he is. A person like this is certainly a rare jewel. So, thank you sir from the bottom of my heart. You are a true angel.
