Douglas H. Valline

Douglas H. Valline, 90, a Moses Lake resident passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the Blue Goose Care Center in Moses Lake. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 8 at the Rose Street L.D.S. Church. Interment will be at the Hartline Cemetery. Please sign the online guestbook at www.kayserschapel.com. Douglas was born in Emmons, Minnesota on October 6, 1922, son of the late David and Ethel (Thomas) Valline. He served in the U.S. Army and received a purple heart for saving his sergeant. He returned to his wife, Fern and 2 year old daughter, Gloria, at the end of his tour. He worked for 33 years for the Washington State Department of Transportation, including North Bend and Quincy areas, before retiring. After retiring he worked at places including his own 76 gas station in Ephrata, Robertson & Thomas Motors, Inland Oil and Soap Lake School District. He enjoyed fishing, camping, dancing, playing guitar, Country Western music, family and friends. He belonged to many area Granges and Senior Centers.

Survivors include his daughter Gloria Valline, three sisters Betty, Dorothy and Linda; companion, Kitty Minerd (and her family); five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters; close friends, Art & Sandy Wenholz. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David, three brothers, Wes, Ward and Dean, two sisters, Ada and Eileen and four wives, Fern (Hume) Valline, Mattie, Rosie and Juanita (Lois).
