Spuds split doubleheader with Titans

MOSES LAKE - The Spuds ended a two-game losing streak with a come-from-behind 4-3 win in the first game of a doubleheader against the Richland Twin City Titans at Larson Field last night.
The Spuds dropped the nightcap, 6-2.
"It was nice to come back and pull out a win" coach Jameson Lange said. "We were in the same situation last night ... tied late in the game ... but lost it in the bottom of the seventh."
Game 1
The Titans took a 1-0 lead into the third inning. The Spuds brought three runs home in the bottom of the frame on a two-out double by Brett Moser who came around to score, and back-to-back singles by Jacob Price and Gunner Raymond to take their first lead of the game, 3-1.
The score held up until Richland rallied with two outs in the top of the fifth to knot things up, 3-3.
The Spuds had a chance to pull ahead, but miscues on the base paths in the fifth and sixth innings snuffed out scoring threats.
The Titans failed to produce a run in the top of the seventh and the game remained tied as the Spuds came to bat.
Elliott Sage led off the bottom of the inning with a walk, but was picked off first base. Moser doubled, then narrowly escaped being thrown out at third on an infield grounder off the bat of Jacob Price. Moser scored on a past ball on the next pitch to end it, 4-3.
Price went the distance on the hill to record the win, and improve the Spuds to 7-6 in league play.
"Jacob really battled hard in this game and threw a lot of first strike pitches," Lange said. "This was probably his best outing of the season."
Game 2
Richland scored two unearned runs in the top of the first inning in the nightcap to take an early 2-0 lead. The Spuds got one back in the bottom of the frame to close the gap to 2-1.
The Titans responded with two in the top of the second to push the score to 4-1. A one-out RBI by Moser in the bottom of the third made it 4-2 Richland. Neither team put a run on the board in the fourth and fifth inning. But a two-run sixth gave Richland some breathing room, 6-2.
The Spuds failed to score in their last two at bats and dropped the game by four runs. Jerry Reyes was tagged with the loss.
The defeat evened the Spuds league record at 7-7, as the team lost a twin bill on the road to the Titans Saturday.
The Spuds are back on the diamond Tuesday when they host a doubleheader with the Yakima Beetles. The first pitch is schedule for noon.
"I'd sure like to get a couple of wins, especially at home," Lange said. "If we execute and stay aggressive, I think we'll be fine."
