Charges filed in Quincy shooting

EPHRATA - Charges have been filed against the man arrested in connection to a recent Quincy shooting believed to be gang related.

Rigoberto I. Vazquez, 24, of Quincy, was charged with two counts of first-degree assault with a firearm or deadly weapon in Grant County Superior Court recently.

It started when Quincy police responded to shots fired between two homes on C Street. Officers were notified by a 9-1-1 caller as well as a gunshot location system called Shot Spotter.

A victim was shot in the leg and transported to Quincy Valley Hospital.

According to the police report, the shooting may have stemmed from altercations between rival gangs earlier in the day.

Earlier in the evening, police responded to a reported assault at a convenience store. According to court documents, a man with gang ties was allegedly attacked by three people.

About an hour before the shooting, Quincy police had to break up a reported verbal disturbance between members of two rival gangs on C Street.

One man was reportedly heard saying he was going to stock up on guns and ammunition.

At the time of the shooting, a witness who lives on C Street reportedly told police that she saw a large group of people and a male having an argument before each side brandished a weapon.

Shot Spotter detected multiple shots fired from each party, but was unable to determine who shot first.

According to the police report, the witness was able to identify Vazquez as one of the alleged shooters to law enforcement. Surveillance video also showed Vazquez pointing a gun at another man's head.

Vazquez was detained around 3:30 a.m. and allegedly told police that he had been asleep during the altercation.

Vazquez was arrested and transported to Grant County Jail.

According to court documents, bullet holes were found coming from each direction.
