Moses Lake residents support right to life

MOSES LAKE - The annual Knights of Columbus Right to Life Walk drew dozens of people Sunday. Demonstrators spent the afternoon walking along Stratford Road in support of the pro-life movement.

Organizer Mark Krcma said he has been involved with planning the annual walk for about 10 years.

He said that the walk is held in late January every year in order to draw attention to the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision on the Roe versus Wade case, which was handed down on Jan. 22, 1973.

Moses Lake resident Susan Stolsig said she participated because she wanted to shed light on the alternatives to abortion, including adoption.

Stolsig said there are resources in Moses Lake to help mothers who are struggling with their pregnancy.

The Crossroads Resource Center is one place women can turn to for support and information, she said.

Rep. Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, attended Sunday's march. She said she recently attended a similar pro-life walk in Olympia.

Warnick thanked the crowd for participating in the walk and for supporting the Right to Life movement.

"We appreciate you and bless the work that you do," she said to the marchers.

Krcma said that he was pleased with Sunday's turnout. Despite the bitterly cold weather, people were showing up early to pick up signs, he said.

Krcma told the crowd it was good to see so many people that were passionate about the pro-life cause.

Krcma said he hopes to see their dedication pay off, by having abortion made illegal nationwide in the upcoming years.

"Hopefully we don't have to do this 40 years from now," he said of the march.

The local walk echoed a much larger national protest, the annual March for Life, which on Jan. 25 marched into the nation's capitol with a crowd of more than 400,000, including a record number of college students.
