MATTAWA - The Wahluke High School boys wrestling team won three dual meets last week and placed fourth at the Liberty Bell Invitational.

This Saturday, some of the boys and all of the girls will compete at the Zillah all-comers meet. It's designed for those wrestlers who have not surpassed their allotted number of matches.

"Only a few boys will go," coach Russell Kovalenko said. "Most of them will reach the maximum before Saturday."

That will occur at a double dual at Warden Thursday. Wahluke will face Kiona-Benton and Mabton.

Last week the Warriors elevated their dual meet record to 7-4-1 with victories over Highland, 41-35, River View, 48-29, and Burbank, 60-21.

At Liberty Bell, the Warriors finished fourth among 18 teams. Six Warriors placed individually.

Sebastian Barajas took third place at 106 pounds. He pinned his final opponent to post three wins against one loss.

At 113 pounds, Chris Garcia compiled a 2-2 record for fourth place. Antonio Gomez duplicated that effort at 120.

Chris Fabela took third place at 126. He pinned his final opponent.

Jack Yorgesen got the same result at 182, but he had to win a 7-5 battle for third place.

The final Warrior to place was 220-pounder Jaime Jimenez. He won his first two matches to make the final and finished 2-1.
