Royal girls drop 2 more SCAC contests
ROYAL CITY - The long basketball season for Royal High School's girls continued last week, with the Knights dropping league contests to River View, 43-35, and Wahluke, 54-14.
The good news is that Royal competed in the second half of the River View game. The Knights were outscored only 23-18.
"We played pretty well against River View," coach Phil Daubel said. "We got within 10 at a few points in the second half."
Flor Araujo led the Knights with 13 points. Jacky Guadarrama and Dory Floren added four each.
"Flor has really started to come on in the last few games," Daubel said. "I am pleased with her progress. Jacky and Dory also played tough."
Saturday was a different story against Wahluke. Araujo and Floren were shut out, and Guadarrama was limited to two points.
"The only quarter we competed in was the third," Daubel said.
Wahluke outscored Royal, 8-7, in that frame. The Warriors shut out the Knights, 11-0, in the second.
Brittany Hebdon led the Knights with seven points. Kayla Smith scored three, and Becca Lee had two.
