Right to Life Walk this weekend

MOSES LAKE - The annual Knights of Columbus Right to Life Walk is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Demonstrators will meet at the old K-Mart parking lot off Stratford Road, said organizer Mark Krcma. Krcma said he has been involved in organizing the annual walk in Moses Lake for about 10 years.

Krcma said the walk is always held in late January to draw attention to the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision on the Roe versus Wade case, which was handed down on Jan. 22, 1973.

"This walk is in response to that decision," said Krcma. "And to draw attention to the fact that there is a large part of the population that doesn't go along with this man-made decision that legalizes abortion in this country."

About 150 to 200 people usually participate in the demonstration, he said.

"That's a big turnout, especially with the weather conditions we can face this time of the year," said Krcma. "It says a lot about how passionate people are about this cause."

Krcma said the walk is a non-denominational event because numerous religious organizations have a stance on the right to life issue.

"We're all in this together, Jesus didn't just speak to a certain amount of people," he said. "His word was for everybody."

Pro-life signs and banners will be provided for demonstrators to carry if they choose, said Krcma. Participants are also welcome to bring their own signs, he said.

The walk will take place on Stratford Road for about an hour, said Krcma. There will be refreshments provided after the walk.
