MATTAWA - The Wahluke girls got back to post-holiday prep basketball last week and found the going continues to be tough.

The Warriors fell to River View, 41-34, Quincy, 41-18, and Connell, 71-28.

"It was tough to get going after the long holiday break, but the girls were ready to play at River View on Tuesday night," coach Jeff Ahmann said. "They really played tough, one of our best games of the season."

For once, the Warriors started out fast. Wahluke led 12-5 after the first quarter and 18-14 at the half.

"Our defense was tough, and we were getting to the line and making our free-throws (8)," Ahmann said.

In the third quarter, RV came out firing, hitting 2 straight 3-balls in the first minute to take a 2-point lead and outscore the Warriors 19-10 in the quarter.

In the fourth period, the Warriors stayed even but just ran out of gas. Marleny Garcia led all scorers with 15 points. Lilly Ramirez had 9 and Tanya Mendez 6.

The Warriors looked like a completely different team against Quincy than on Tuesday at RV. They racked up 54 turnovers and only 8 total rebounds for the game.

Connell, one of the top teams in the state, was just too much for the Warriors. Ramirez led the scoring with 12 points. Marleny Garcia scored 6.

Wahluke will have three more games this week, starting on Tuesday night at Kittitas. Friday they will host Burbank, and Saturday they will travel to Royal.
