Wahluke boys drop 2 SCAC games

MATTAWA - Wahluke competed well in prep boys basketball last week but still came up short, dropping league match-ups with River View and Connell while winning a non-league game with Quincy.

The loss to River View, 48-46, went down to the wire, and the Panthers made the plays that mattered. Oscar Onofre led the Warriors with 15 points, and Alan Caro added 12.

On Thursday the Warriors got a home floor rematch with a Quincy team that had beaten them by four points at Quincy. This time it was Wahluke winning, 49-40.

"We were looking forward to a rematch," coach Cody Marlow said.

The game was won with a 19-10 fourth quarter outburst. Onofre led all scorers with 17 points. Alan Caro had 13, hitting 7-of-8 free throws in the final frame.

Saturday Wahluke dropped a contest to Connell, 48-36.

After a good Wahluke first half, Connell's size took over the game. Onofre led all scorers again with 13 points. Caro had 9.

"Overall, our defense is right where it needs to be," Marlow said. "We just need to finish our shots and get more scoring. It will be a challenge in the second half of league but one our boys are ready to face.

Wahluke will play at Kittitas tonight, host Burbank on Friday and travel to Royal on Saturday.
